Today is a big day...Malena's first ride on a plane. We are all going up to San Francisco for the weekend to see Mike (T.J.'s brother) and our friends. I'm a little nervous, but this is our trial-run for when we have to fly across the country for both Thanksgiving & Christmas. Should be very interesting!
Malena's stomach flu is finally gone. She had her first shots on Monday. They had to poke her 4 times and she cried only about 3 minutes. She was a little fussy that night, but Tylenol did the trick for the most part.
Wednesday night was hell. Once she woke up at 12:15 a.m., she was pretty much up for the rest of the night! T.J. and I took turns with her, but neither one of us got any real rest. She has a diaper rash and every time she peed, she'd get very upset. She was getting more and more upset because she was overtired and couldn't fall asleep.
We have always comforted Malena to sleep by rocking or bouncing her, etc. But lately she has had trouble falling asleep in our arms. She is so particular and can't get in a comfortable position. So, she hasn't really been sleeping well. After Wednesday night, I decided on Thursday that the girl needs some real rest. So I spent the day rocking her only a tiny bit before naps and putting her down while she's still sort of awake. For the first nap, she cried for half an hour but then finally slept a while. It was difficult to listen to, but I knew she wouldn't sleep in my arms and she really needed rest. For the next 2 naps, she only whimpered for about 5 minutes. At bedtime (which has been moved earlier to about 7 p.m.), she cried about 15 minutes and didn't wake up until she was hungry at 12:45 a.m. I put her back down at 1:45 a.m. and she whimpered for 10 minutes. Now, here I have been awake for an hour because I'm not used to getting so much rest! I'm still waiting for her to wake up! I'm dying to see her!Comments:Add a comment:

Malena is 2 months old today! I can't believe it. The days go by so fast.
Life is getting easier here in the Marchetti household. Malena is sleeping better at night AND during the day, which is wonderful. Her colic seems to be disappearing, thank God. She isn't nearly as fussy and can be calmed much more easily. As tiring as it can be at times, it is incredibly flattering to know that sometimes all she wants is for me to hold her.
Last week was a bit tough because the poor baby had a stomach flu and terrible diarrhea. Don't know how she got it, but she's pretty much over it now...just in time for her 2-month appointment where she'll be poked with needles for her vaccinations. Can't wait for that. :-(
Malena is becoming increasingly affectionate. Last week she started reaching her hands out to touch me all over as I fed her. She is also fascinated with her daddy's stubble, so she touches his face a lot. Another sweet thing she does is to wrap her arms around my neck. It feels like she is hugging me, but I'm sure she's too young to know how to do that. She does it often, though, and I can't get enough of it!
I think Malena sees ghosts! About a week ago, she developed this sudden fascination with the ceiling above her changing table. It doesn't matter how mad she is...as soon as I lay her down to change her diaper, she stares up at the ceiling and starts smiling and cooing (borderline laughing) at something above her head. She's not looking at the light, so I don't know what's going on. She has so much fun doing it that several times I've just strapped her in and let her stare/laugh at thin air for 10 minutes while I cleaned up her room. It kind of creeped me out at first, but now, what the heck. It keeps her content!
At her doctor's appointment on Monday (Oct. 4), she weighed 11 pounds 12 ounces. Her legs are so strong. She now knows how to plant the soles of her feet down and use them to lift up her pelvis. She does this in the bathtub and while I'm changing her diaper. Did I already mention this in the last update? She loves standing up in my lap -- going from sitting to standing over and over again. It's cute, but sometimes she is so hyper that she spits up from it!
T.J. finally set up her internet camera, so you can catch her live quite often (or perhaps random newspaper photos of the NY Yankees...don't ask).

A lot has changed in the past few weeks! Fellow mothers always told me "they grow so fast," but I just never realized how quickly babies change and pass through the different stages of development. It's astounding!
Malena looks so different now. I swear it seems her head gets bigger every time I look at her! She smiles and "talks" a lot. The sound of her cry is totally different than it was 2 or 3 weeks ago. She is very strong -- holds her head up just fine and stands up tall when you hold her under her armpits. Malena now loves taking a bath and sucks her fingers the whole time. She does, however, still hate when you take her out of the bath -- screaming at the top of her little lungs! Speaking of screaming...
The colic situation is slowly improving. She is still a screamer, but at least there is more playtime without screaming than there was last week. She is becoming easier to console, but sometimes that requires the intervention of the pacifier. Her need to suck is increasing. I read somewhere that this usually happens around 2 months, and she is 7 1/2 weeks, so not far off.
Last week Malena discovered her ears and hair and has enjoyed pulling on them many times throughout the day. She hasn't started pulling hard enough to cause pain...yet. However, she does like to cause her mother pain by grabbing my hair and twisting my nipples whenever possible. She's got her daddy's long, thin fingers.
It is harder to put her to sleep these days because she's so interested in everything else. She fights sleep like no baby I've ever seen. She has started this new thing where she jams her head into the crook of her daddy's elbow to fall asleep. Sometimes it takes her a few tries before she is comfortable enough to fall asleep. She is very particular! This habit of hers rarely works on me because as soon as she gets into the crook, she is looking for boobage.
Her sleep routine, if you want to call it one, is still sporadic. Some days she refuses to nap at all. Then there are usually one or two days per week where she just wants to sleep all day. At night, she usually has her bath at 8:30, then I feed her, and then Daddy puts her to bed by 9:30. She usually sleeps at least 4 1/2 hours, and even went 7 1/2 hours the other night! Then I feed her and put her back to sleep for another 2 to 4 hours. After the first morning feeding, T.J. very kindly takes her while I nap at least an hour before he goes to work. This is usually what gets me through the day.Comments:Add a comment:
