T.J. and I had our first babysitter on Saturday night! Malena was perfect...never even woke up for the sitter. I was surprised that I didn't want to call home every hour. In fact, we were gone 5 1/2 hours and we didn't call home once. I knew the baby would be sleeping anyway.
On Sunday morning, T.J. was feeding Malena a bottle so I could get some extra rest after the long night out. Malena decided she was a big girl and could hold the bottle all by herself! So cute. The best part was that when the milk was almost gone, she tipped up the bottle to get the rest! So smart!
Tomorrow is a big day...4 1/2 hour flight to Louisiana for Thanksgiving! We'll be staying at my sister's house for 8 days, and I'm flying home ALONE with the baby. Yikes! Hope I can handle it. Really, I hope the other passengers can handle it.Comments:Add a comment:

Words can't describe how wonderful it is to be a Mommy...FINALLY! It was so rough those first 3 months, and now it's so much fun!!! Malena is learning new tricks every day. After screaming all the way home from Altadena on Friday, she gave me her first laugh. I was feeding her and she kept pulling away to look up at me and laugh. It was incredible to hear! And, of course, I had tears in my eyes.
For a couple weeks, Malena didn't even coo. For some unknown reason she just stopped. I guess she was gearing up for her first laugh. Now she laughs, gurgles and coos all day. She even entertains herself in her crib by making funny noises.
Unfortunately, we are still swaddling this girl. We tried to stop, but she just wakes herself up. She won't sleep for more than 20 minutes when she's unswaddled. The so-called "Miracle Blanket" is no obstacle for her, though. She can get out of that thing whenever she feels like it. Always has been able to. Oh well. I am still working on my million-dollar swaddling blanket. Just you wait.
Malena's got another cold. Not as bad as last time, but enough to aggravate her. Still no fever.
I'm so bad about tummy time. This kid is never going to learn to roll over between the swaddling and lack of tummy time. Ugh. She just hates it on her tummy. I only make her do it 2 or 3 times a week. So what if she doesn't roll over, right? Once she does, I'll never be able to take my eyes off of her!
I think Malena's going to skip rolling over and crawling altogether and just go ahead and walk. She *always* wants to be standing up. She doesn't even like sitting in her bouncy or swing anymore. I broke down and bought her the Ultrasaucer. She'll be able to sit up in that and play. I hope she likes it!Comments:Add a comment:

Yesterday was a lot of fun. Malena has learned some new things. First, she now rubs her eyes when she's tired. I much prefer that to the all-out screaming! She also likes to imitate me, whether I'm sucking my thumb or smacking my tongue to make a clicking noise. She is finding objects increasingly tasty...especially ones with rounded corners...she seems to think they are nipples!

Malena is 3 months old today!!! It is so hard to believe how quickly these 3 months have passed. Actually, she is really 12 months old today if you think about when it all started. ;-)
Malena and I were at the grocery store yesterday and she had the pacifier in her mouth. Every time it started to fall out, she would bring her hands together and lift them up to push the pacifier back in her mouth! I was so amazed and wished her daddy had been there to see it. One time it totally fell out and her thumb caught the ring of it. She was trying desperately to put it back in, but, alas, she hasn't yet mastered that skill.
Yesterday I started interviewing potential babysitters. We decided it would be nice to get out every now and then to see a movie. The babysitter won't have to do much, though. Malena goes to sleep by 7 p.m. and doesn't wake up until about 1:30 or so. She took great naps yesterday -- one in the morning for 45 minutes -- then a 2 1/2-hour nap in the middle of the day -- then another 1-hour nap in the afternoon. So far today she is repeating the same schedule. I love this child so much...but I love her even more when she sleeps because she wakes up in such a good mood and ready to play!Comments:Add a comment:

12 weeks old! Can't wait to hit the 3-month mark to see if this colic is completely gone. Right now, Malena is going through a growth spurt, so her normal sleeping routine has been totally disrupted. Frustrating for both of us...and Daddy, too! It seems like just when we have some momentum, something radically changes. T.J. keeps reminding me to expect everything to be unpredictable, but I guess I don't do as well with change.
Malena has started trying to put things in her mouth. I've been reading "The Fuzzy Bee and Friends" to her. It's a soft book with lots of textures to touch. She loves playing with it, and she tries to put the corners of the pages in her mouth. She is fascinated by most objects now. Just yesterday she was sitting with me on the sofa, and she wouldn't stop rubbing her fingers on the arm of the sofa and the pillows.
We are both getting over a bad cold. Malena caught it first...probably at her baptism. Poor girl had lots of nasty stuff in her nose and was very cranky. Probably because I kept torturing her with the saline nose drops and bulb syringe...not to mention the dreaded rectal thermometer (which I only used once). She never had fever, which was quite a relief.
Her first Halloween was a lot of fun for us but not for her. She was a blue fish and she hated the costume! We weren't planning to trick-or-treat...it was more for the photo opportunity. See for yourself:
