We have big news over here...

Malena is going to be a BIG SISTER!

I am 12 weeks pregnant, and my due date is June 11, 2005. I have a blog about my pregnancy at a different location, if you want to read it. It's not for children's eyes, though.

Yesterday was the big day...my first day back at work. It went surprisingly well. I was very happy to be there, although I was nervous the night before and on the drive over there. My boss repeatedly told me how happy he was to have me back. It made me feel very pleased with my decision.

Malena on the other hand probably had a rough day. She screamed when I left her, and she only had a 1-hour nap the entire day. The good news is that she slept until 8 a.m. today, so I got a little extra sleep myself.

We just returned from her 15-month check-up at the doctor. She now weighs 24 lbs. 10 oz. She is 30 3/4" tall. Her head circumference is 18 1/2 inches. She is basically in the 50 - 75% range for everything. They gave her the vaccinations for MMR & chicken pox. I am still debating on the flu shot.

Today is Malena's second day spending time with her new daycare provider. She went on Tuesday afternoon for 3 hours while I was at the doctor. Shirin said she cried a little bit when I left, but then was very good and even slept for an hour.

This morning, I dropped her off at 8:30 a.m. to get her used to the upcoming morning routine and she SCREAMED. I felt so horrible. I planned to pick her up after she ate lunch, but Shirin called me at 12:40 p.m. to say she'd just went to sleep. (Her nap usually starts about 10:30 a.m. these days.)

The thought of her over there struggling to sleep in a strange crib makes me so sick. I hope I can handle this going-back-to-work thing on Tuesday. She's only been there 6 hours and I'm shaking because it feels like a year.

Mimi has had a cold since she flew up to San Jose with me last Thursday. Despite her trouble sleeping the first two nights (stuffy nose), she was sooooooooooooooo amazingly well behaved on the trip. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it for myself.

We had fun visiting with Sherry, Tracy, Samantha, Shannon, Paige, Uncle Mikey & Amy. She had an especially fun time playing with the other kids: Athens, Ava & Carter. We went to the annual Hull casino night, where Malena slept in Jack's Pack & Play, and we had such a fun time seeing old friends. We even won a fantastic door prize -- a poker set -- which T.J. and I have already been playing so we can learn Texas Hold 'Em before Gram steals all our money over Thanksgiving.

Halloween was fun, even though the poor baby was still a little under the weather. She wore the thrift store mouse costume again, and everyone thought she was a bunny. Mimi LOVED seeing all the little girls dressed up in princess costumes, and she stalked a little Snow White for a good long while.

It was crazy to watch her interact with the trick-or-treaters at our house. She would stand on the front porch waving and yelling "HEY!" to the kids as they walked down the street. Malena was, however, very scared of our jack-o-lantern, which I guess is good because T.J. wanted to make it a "scary" one this year.

All in all, it was a lot of fun, even though I was called "Martha Stewart" by a young man who told his friends I had to go make some toast when I refused to give him another batch of candy.
