Malena Therese Marchetti

December 2005

It's been a long time since I've written. It's just so busy now with the holidays, a sick child & working two days a week.

    So, let me catch up.

Malena had a really fun time during Thanksgiving with her Nana, Papa, G.G. (great!-grandmother) & Uncle Mike. She was quite the entertainer and was very well behaved.

Last Friday I threw a little holiday party for all her toddler friends. It was lots of fun watching the kids eating, playing & opening presents in the gift exchange. Most of them were dressed up in holiday attire. We tried to get a group photo, but, of course, that was NOT happening. It will be really something to watch them again one year from now. Maybe Santa will make an appearance.

I finally drew up enough courage & patience to take Mimi to get another professional photo. Taking her to get her photo made is absolutely one of my LEAST FAVORITE things to do. I abhor it. She HATES getting her photo done. The second you put her in front of the camera she screams, whines, tries to run away, etc. It SUCKS.

This time I didn't chicken out and say I'd come back. No, I was a royal bit__. (Fill in the blanks.) I was so frustrated with these people. I don't know why I called them "professionals" as they are really a bunch of amateurs. They did nothing to help the situation, and I flat out told them I was not leaving without a decent photo of her. 2 1/2 hours later I think we got one. Be on the lookout for our Christmas card in your mailbox. It's not perfect, but whatever, it is DONE!

Since Saturday, Malena has been sick with a stomach virus. I swear, it seems that almost every time she gets sick, it involves her stomach. I guess maybe she just has a weak stomach? Maybe that explains the colic?

Okay, now for the positives. Mimi is such a sweet little girl. So active and full of life. These days, she's happy most of the time. She loves her babies, her books & looking at the Christmas tree and Christmas lights and yelling "WOW!"

Some of her latest words are:

ho ho ho (what does Santa say?)
    pear plane (airplane)
there you go (imitating us after we change her diaper, clean her up, etc.)
    juice
    sa claw (Santa Claus)
    wa lah (water)
    puh ee (pudding)
    gook (book)
    dis (this)
    peace (please)
    day ku (thank you)
    kay kee (blankie)
    dolly
    beh bee (baby)

Some funny things she does lately:

    - Points at her own belly when you ask her "Where is the new baby?"
    - Makes her "cheese" face when she knows you are mad at her just to make you laugh.
    - Picks up random small pieces of old food, dust, etc., and hands it to you and says "day ku" (see list above).
    - Tries to feed you her own food.
    - Stomps her feet and claps her hands when she wants you to sing "Deep in the Heart of Texas."
    - Dances when the singing Santa Claus on our front door is activated.
    - Runs in fear when the singing Santa Claus hanging from the office door is activated.
    - Sleeps with her fingers protruding through the holes in her favorite afghan.
    - Hides the remote controls in very creative places, including the shoes in our closet and my sock drawer.
    - Unwraps half the Christmas presents I started wrapping BEFORE HALLOWEEN (okay, it's funny NOW).

In other news, Malena is finally off the patch. We go back to the eye doctor on Jan. 11 to see how she did for 5 weeks with no patch. Wish us luck!
