Yesterday was our 2nd wedding anniversary. I can't believe it's only been 2 years, to be honest. So much has happened since that foggy day in Santa Monica...feels more like 5 years!
Mimi is starting to play games with me. Today she was hiding behind her curtain playing peek-a-boo, and it was so damn adorable. Later in the day, she was in her play room and I was doing something at the kitchen island. I couldn't see her, but I could hear her. She kept giggling to get my attention. Finally, I looked over at her and she had dug my sunglasses out of the diaper bag. She was just dying for me to look at her because she knew she wasn't supposed to have them. At dinner, the three of us were sitting outside on the patio. She was in her exersaucer (yes, she is too big for it, but it gives me a few minutes to eat) and she kept pulling on the tablecloth. I'd look at her with my "no" look and she'd shyly turn her head away. Over and over she did this. Little stinker!
Malena loves her new bathtub. It is much shallower than the big clawfoot tub at our old house. I guess she feels more comfortable in this one...she has more confidence and balance to move around it and stand up in it. I'll have to take some photos of her in it so I can torture her in about 10 or 15 years.
During lunch today, she learned how to suck up a spaghetti that was dangling out of her mouth. It's these little things that make me smile every day.Comments:Add a comment:

We've officially moved into our new home is La Canada Flintridge, CA. We moved in one week ago today and, so far, we are loving it! I am very comfortable here much earlier than I'd expected to be. This house just really fits our lifestyle better. We have a big kitchen with a play room off of it. Next to it is the office. So, I can keep an eye on Mimi through out the day while I'm in the kitchen and working in the office. It will be even better when the baby gate arrives. I'm going to put it up between the play room and the dining room so she'll really be confined to a safe area. We never babyproofed our old house, so it's going to be such a relief when thise house is fully baby-friendly.
This place is HOT, though. It is much hotter during the day, but it's cooler at night compared to Hancock Park. So, it's a damn good thing we have a pool in the backyard to beat the heat. Next week we're getting a fully automatic pool cover installed so we don't have to worry as much with kids running around back there.
Malena's Nana (T.J.'s Mom) has been here since Wednesday watching the baby for me so I can unpack and run errands. I don't know how I would have done anything this week without her! Mimi is at that impossible stage...she always wants attention and she gets into EVERYTHING. She's not big on toys...but she's big on everything else she's not supposed to have. Especially wires. She is obsessed with them. She knows she's not supposed to be near them, so when she starts crawling towards them, she turns around and looks to see if I'm watching. Sneaky little booger!
Let me see, what are Malena's latest tricks. Well, now, she likes crawling without her knees on the ground. She gets up on all fours and makes her way around with her butt in the air! I think she's trying to stand. She even raises up one arm and balances on all threes. I guess she's trying to stand without holding on to anything. She hasn't been able to do it, though.
Another cute thing is now when you sing to her, she tries to sing along by going "aaah aaaaaaaaaaah aah, etc." It's really adorable!
She doesn't want to be fed anymore. She almost always insists on putting her own food in her own mouth. So, mealtimes are getting more difficult. She is starting to get picky about some foods, too. She knows the difference between fresh fruit and jarred fruit. She doesn't like the jarred stuff. Can you blame her?Comments:Add a comment:

Mimi is quickly becoming a toddler. My little baby is growing up faster than I could have ever imagined. She is standing and cruising. She is growing hair on her legs. She deliberately disobeys my commands. Next thing I know she'll be getting asked out on dates!
Today was kind of a sad day. We have been packing all weekend because we are moving to our new house at the end of the week. It is heartbreaking to pack up Malena's room. I remember spending a lot of time in there just before she was born just anticipating the little baby who would grow up in that room. It really saddens me to think she won't remember this house one day. It has been such an incredible home for us, and she will only know it through photos. I'm sure in another couple years I'll feel the same attachment to the new house. It is weird, though, preparing yet another baby nursery.
T.J. taught Malena how to clap yesterday. Although I've been practicing this with her for months, she finally did it for him. Her verbal skills are getting better. She babbles a lot more with more sounds. She is trying to form words, and she even tries to repeat words you say, such as when I say "cheese," she says "ch." That kind of thing. She still says the word "diaper" on occasion.
Malena had so much fun with her cousins Benji & Timmy in Louisiana. She is going to be very social, I can tell already.Comments:Add a comment:

I am in Louisiana right now with Mimi. The flight here was pretty painless. There was an extra seat next to me, so I put the baby in the car seat. She only slept about an hour during the flight, but she was content most of the time that she was awake. Thank God. It is not easy travelling alone with a baby.
Within 24 hours of arriving, Malena has learned to crawl the "right" way, pull up to a stand on furniture, and master the art of sleeping while standing. She is still freaked out sleeping in a strange crib. So, as soon as I put her down, she screams and stands up. She eventually falls asleep while she is still standing there with her little hands gripping the rail and her chin resting on it. All is quiet for a few minutes until she wakes up, realizes she's standing in some strange crib and starts screaming. I try to put her down, but the whole process starts all over again. I didn't ever think this would happen, so I'm not sure what to do! Do I just leave her and eventually she'll fall down and fall asleep? What if she hits her head? This is a total pain!Comments:Add a comment:
