Whoa, was this a busy weekend. I didn't realize that La Canada really gets into the Memorial Day holiday. There were events all day on Saturday, Sunday & Monday, and we attended nearly all of them...including a French toast breakfast, soap box derby, BBQ dinner with fireworks, parade & catered lunch at the park. Malena really enjoyed all the festivities. We did find some downtime to relax in the pool.

Mimi is at daycare today. Over the past few days, she's started crying very abruptly for no real reason. I wonder how much she truly senses that her baby brother is very much on his way. She is even waking up in the night doing this.

Ever since my Mother's Day pedicure, Mimi has been obsessed with my painted toes. Today she asked me to paint hers, so I did. Her first time! She chose the color blue. I'll post a photo later!

I can't believe in less than 3 weeks Malena will be a big sister. I'm trying to soak in every bit of her in these last days of "only child"ness. Our lives are about to change so drastically. I hope we can both handle it!

Mimi continues to grow and amaze us. She says quite a few full sentences, still loves to eat, and is becoming more and more adventurous when she plays. Just this morning she climbed onto the top of her bookcase (not good), and she loves playing on the big kid equipment at the local park. After a long while of observing, she found the nerve to actually jump around inside a bouncy house at a birthday party yesterday. She loved it!

Lately, she isn't freaking out as much when I go into Thomas' room. She loves the baseballs on the wall and playing with his baby blankets in the Moses basket. I keep telling her that the "doctor is going to take Thomas out of Mommy's tummy so he can come home and sleep in his room." She seems excited and says, "Yeah!" I ask her if she'll help me feed him and change his diaper and sing songs to him and she yells, "Yeah!" She still enjoys kissing my tummy.

She is showing a lot of interest in other babies, especially ones in their car seats. She talks about baby Devon, my friend Debbie's 6-week-old, whom she sees at Gymboree. When T.J. took the infant car seat out of the garage yesterday, that really piqued her interest. I'm going to put it in the car this week with a doll or teddy in it to get her used to the idea of sharing the backseat with someone else.

The best thing lately has been Malena's ability to say "I love you" back to us. Sometimes it is "love you" -- other times it's "I love you, too!" It is so heartwarming to hear. She says it a lot to her Daddy. She also requests "family hug," where all three of us huddle and take turns kissing each other...then she pushes me away so it's just her and her Daddy. She thinks that's hilarious.

We had a great weekend. We visited our friends Steve & Talina in Montecito for one night. Malena loved running around their HUGE house and playing with Talina. She was particularly fond of their very minimalistic, modern furniture. We also visited the site of their future home, which will be on 3 acres with dozens of very old oak trees and a creek. It was gorgeous, even though the weather was overcast.

I probably say this all the time, but Malena is really such a little girl now. She loves her babies. It's so cute to watch her swaddle them up in blankets, feed them, change their clothes & diapers, and rock & sing to them. She still talks about Baby Nicholas (her cousin she saw in LA a few weeks ago) and about how she fed him a bottle. She rubs my tummy and says, "Thomas kickin'?"

A wonderful thing happened Friday. She started saying the word "yes." It's more like "ya," but she says it now more than "no," which is such a nice change!!!

Mimi is painfully aware now of the upcoming arrival of her little brother. I spent much of the weekend in his room getting it ready. She insisted on playing in her old bouncy seat even though she is WAY too big for it. I thought it might break. She also wanted for herself every single toy & baby blanket that I washed and put away. Every time I walked into that room she would whine and cry. It was a tad bit heartbreaking.

I've declared May the Month of Malena. It is our last month together before Baby Thomas arrives. My plan is to do something really fun with her every day (except Tuesdays when she goes to daycare).

We started the month off very well yesterday with her first trip to Chuck E. Cheese's. She ran around with her friends Ella, Joseph & Julianne and ate pizza and salad. She was afraid of most of the rides that had characters on them. She didn't like Chuck much, either. But, she had such a great time that she fell asleep in the car on the way home.

She refused to go back to sleep when I put her in the crib. Regardless, I knew she needed some quiet time, so I left her in there and took a nap myself. When I awoke, I heard loud noises in her room. There she was, on the floor, having made a TOTAL MESS of her room. She had gotten out of the crib. :-(

For my 30th birthday, Malena did very well. She gave me the new Prince CD and is buying me tickets to see Prince in concert for sometime on his upcoming tour. I wanted to see him last time around, but I was about to give birth to her.

Daddy did quite well, too. Even though he swore he'd never give me another diamond after we got married, he gave me diamond & sapphire earrings. They are beautiful!
